Floor tiling in the bathroom

Tiling and waterproofing

This solution is designed for wet rooms in apartments and private houses. The solution is not designed for swimming pools and high load conditions. Drainage and slope must be ensured. Products belonging to the same system should be selected by the manufacturer. When installing the materials, the manufacturer’s instructions and the requirements of the design must be followed. If necessary, the solution must be adapted to the conditions of a specific object.

Tiling and waterproofing

  1. Concrete subfloor

The slope of the floor must be in accordance with the design and guide of the water to the floor drain.
The subfloor must be so flat that water does not accumulate top of the waterproofing (follow also the relevant requirements on the finished floor). If the slopes and evenness of the subfloor are not sufficient, they must be adjusted to the following layers, see floor leveling compound.

  2. Primer for levelling compound

Priming is necessary to improve the adhesion of the levelling compound to the concrete subfloor. The surface to be primed must be dry and clean. The primer should be selected that is compatible with the type of levelling comound. If required, the manufacturer’s products belonging to the same system must be used.

  3. Levelling compound

Depending on the specific object and situation, the floor must be leveled if necessary (the slopes are given with the subfloor and the surface needs to be leveled) or the floor slopes must be improved. Accordingly the right product should be chosen. The manufacturer’s system-specific primer should also be selected according to the mixture. The slope must be in accordance with the design and guide the water floor staircase drain. The base must be level so that water does not accumulate on top of the waterproofing.

  4. Primer for waterproofing

The primer is necessary to improve the adhesion of waterproofing. You should select the manufacturer’s products from the same system. As a rule, waterproofing mastics are tested in the system to ensure the solution and products perfoming well.

  5. Waterproofing

The waterproofing mast is used to make the surface of the tiles waterproof (drainage and slopes must be ensured. The solution is not designed for swimming pools). Products belonging to the system (tested by producter as system) should be selected from the same system. As a rule, waterproofing mastics have been tested as a system and ensure their recuired perfomances. When installing the waterproofing, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the surface, priming, installation of the waterproofing mastic, waiting times, tools, etc. The penetrations must be sealed with factory-made flanges, pieces or other watertight products. The installation instructions required by the manufacturer, the thicknesses of the layers and the minimum consumption standards must be followed.

  6. Reinforcing fabric

Reinforcing fabric must be used at the angles between the floor and the wall, at joints, around drains and in other places where there is a risk of cracking. For more complex surfaces, it is necessary to use fabric in all surface. The penetrations must be sealed with factory-made flanges, special pieces or other watertight system included solutions.

  7. Tiling adhesive

  8. Jointing compound

  9. Sealant

The sealant should be chosen with the highest possible mold resistance, good elasticity and low shrinkage. Must pay attention that sealant adheres to all sealed surfaces. In the case of natural stones, special sealants suitable for natural stones must be used.
